Congregation Beth Sholom was founded on September 5, 1958 by 20 people who gathered at a home of in Anchorage to welcome Shabbat and organize a formal Jewish identity for their children. Congregation Beth Sholom, which is a Reform congregation, serves the greater Anchorage community, including areas from Girdwood to the Mat-Su Valley. In 1960, the congregation officially affiliated with the Reform movement. In 1964, the community built its first small synagogue. The facility is wheelchair accessible, including the entrance, parking lot, and restrooms.
