Alaska Jewish Museum

The Alaska Jewish Museum tells the stories of Alaska’s Jewish residents and their contribu­tions to the development of the state’s industries, government, and culture from territorial days to the present. The Alaska Jewish Museum explores and preserves Jewish history, art, and culture in Alaska to promote diversity. It features exhibits on early Alaskan Jewish settlers, the Alaska Commercial Company, and WWII history. Congregation Beth Sholom was founded on September 5, 1958 by 20 people who gathered at a home of in Anchorage to welcome Shabbat and organize a formal Jewish identity for their children. Congregation Beth Sholom, which is a Reform congregation, serves the greater Anchorage community, including areas from Girdwood to the Mat-Su Valley. In 1960, the congregation officially affiliated with the Reform movement. In 1964, the community built its first small synagogue. The facility is wheelchair accessible, including the entrance, parking lot, and restrooms.
